Short Summary:
- Jake Flynn will rejoin the Swamp Rabbits for the 2024-25 ECHL season.
- Flynn made a notable debut last season, achieving a goal and three points in ten games.
- His return solidifies the team’s defensive lineup as they prepare for the new season.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proudly affiliated with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, are thrilled to announce that defenseman Jake Flynn will be returning to the team for the 2024-25 ECHL season. This exciting signing adds depth to an already strong roster as Flynn becomes the sixth defenseman confirmed for the upcoming season, joining fellow blueliners Jacob Modry, Max Coyle, Bobby Russell, Joshua Karlsson, and Miles Gendron.
Flynn, who hails from Weymouth, Massachusetts, offers a dynamic presence on the ice. At 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, he made an impressive entry into pro hockey last season, participating in his first games with the Swamp Rabbits right after concluding his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut.
His debut took place on March 22nd against the Jacksonville Icemen, where he registered an assist in a thrilling 5-4 victory. Just a week later, Flynn scored his first professional goal during his home debut, assisting in the Swamp Rabbits’ 3-2 overtime win over the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Over the course of ten games, Flynn achieved three points (1 goal, 2 assists) and maintained an impressive +6 rating. Additionally, he performed admirably in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, where he posted a +1 rating over six games.
“The way the organization is run between the coaching staff, the players, and the day-to-day development, there were many reasons to come back here for my first full season. We’re going to have a great team, and that adds to the excitement,” Jake Flynn commented regarding his return.
Flynn’s short but impactful stint with the Swamp Rabbits has already made him a key player to watch for the upcoming season. “I learned so much jumping into the pro game when I did. Between 10 regular season games and a best-of-seven playoff series, you learn to adapt to how physically demanding the game is at this level,” he stated. This sentiment highlights the challenges and rapid development players often experience in professional hockey.
“Jake was a big piece of our success when he came in late last season. I’m excited to see what he brings to camp with a full offseason of work ahead of him,” said Kyle Mountain, who is both the coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the Swamp Rabbits. “Jake brings a hard-nosed brand of hockey while also providing a solid skillset and offensive upside.”
Flynn’s collegiate career at UConn spanned five years, where he amassed a remarkable total of 45 points (10 goals, 35 assists) across 152 games. His final NCAA season saw him score six points (1 goal, 5 assists) in 33 games, stepping into a leadership role as an alternate captain.
With the return of Flynn and a number of key players from last season’s roster, the Swamp Rabbits appear poised for a competitive run in the ECHL. Flynn’s ambition for his second season is clear: “My goal, outside of a championship, is to embrace a full 72-game season and take it all in.”
The excitement builds as the Swamp Rabbits approach their 2024-25 regular season opener on October 18 against the Orlando Solar Bears, with a preseason match preceding it against the South Carolina Stingrays on October 9. Fans can expect an electrifying season filled with swift skating, intense action, and the joy of watching aspiring stars like Flynn develop their skills on the ice.
